assalamu alaikum,

Not all copies are distributed free. You need to differentiate between copies which have gift by the king written on it (which are free), and those that are from normal publishing houses such as dar-us-salam etc. I know the wholesale prices on books such as Ibn Katheer, Sahih Bukhari etc and trust me there is not that much profit being made as you might be thinking.

If you can get your hand on a copy which is freely distributed as a gift then thats good alhamdulillah, but the reality is the rest are not free and are paid for. The small amount of money that is made on books sold at dawah centres, helps them to keep spreading the dawah and providing facilities etc for the Muslims.

Most of the major books like that are available online to read for those who don't want to pay for it.

wassalamu alaikum

assalamu alaikum,

If its the ones which say "Free" then thats silly.. but down here I haven't seen that being sold.. I have only seen things such as from Dar-us-Salam which I know cost money.

If people are selling the ones that write "free" well.. thats just plain silly.

wassalamu alaikum

Why doesn't someone devote an entire thread to free books organised systematically?
