I have decided to comply this list of false superstitions that are floating around which we might believe in without realising due to our culture or because we've been brought up to believe them.

Please beware of these.

If I am wrong in any one of these please correct me.

1. Attaching a blue eye to a new born child that is visible for all to see will ward off the evil eye and no harm will come to the child.

2. Looking into coffee cups after the coffee has been drunk (especially lebanese coffee) you will be able to see your future.

3. Jumping over a young child will stop him from growing up.

4. Your left ear rings because someone is gossiping about you in a bad way, while your right ear rings because someone is talking about you in a positve way.

5. Chewing gum at night is the same as chewing dead human meat.

6. Hanging a childs shoe to a car thats been recently purchased will ward off all evil from the car and you wont have any accidents.

7. Whistling at night time will annoy the dead.

8. Pouring ammunition on a baby will stop him from waking up at night.

9. Hitting someone with a broom stick will give him bad luck unless you spit on the broom stick afterwards.

10. A moth found in the house will bring guests.

11. Opening an umbrella at night will also bring about bad luck to the one who opened it.

12. Looking at the palm of your hand you will be able to tell if you will be successful in life or not.

13. A cat will come back and haunt you after you've run it over because cats have 9 lives.

14. Stamping your feet at night will anger the dead.

15. Placing dough at the door step of a newly bought house or newly wed couple will ward off harm to them and the house.

15. Placing a horse shoe at the door step will protect the households.

17. A child that has the ability to walk but crawls in the house will bring you unexpected guests.

18. Placing the date seed in your wallet after eating the date will increase your money.

19. Leaving sissors open will bring bad consequences to the father.

20. Placing a shoe upside down at night will stop the dog from howling or barking.

May Allah guide us. I find muslims seem to believe this rubbish more then non-muslims sometimes.

And then there are those that may seem like superstitions but are actually in Islam:

"Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, ‘If a house fly falls in the drink of anyone of you, he should dip it (in the drink), for one of its wings has a disease and the other has the cure for the disease." Bukhari vol.4 book 54 no.537 p.338.

ive always heard about "Jumping over a young child will stop him(i think its her too:rolleyes: )from growing up" since i was a child and everytime some1 jumped over me, i'd tell them to jump back over me so i can grow again and now im 15 at 152 cm tall:(..lol..but i never really believed in it...i always figured that it was a myth and also haram because of it being superstitious .i never heard of the coffee thing...now dats wat u call weird...

for some reason ive always wondered if its true that if you see a shoe upside down facing the sole, you should always turn it the other side so that the sole of the shoe isnt facing Allah (swt) because its dirty? what are the facts behind this?

has anyone ever heard this.........if a pregnant woman gets a craving and its not fulfilled and she scratches herself somewhere that spot the baby will have a birth mark lol..and....if a pregnant woman looks at ugly things like an ugly animal she shouldnt look at it too long she might "itwaham" and the baby might come out looking similar to that.

 and in many different variations Yaa Ukhtee your sister!

1) If a pregnant woman doesn't have what she is craving, the baby would be born malformed.

2) If you have a piece of haraam food(fruit) and rub it anywhere on your body, the baby will have a mark where the rubbing took place.

3) In regards to: "if a pregnant woman looks at ugly things like an ugly animal she shouldnt look at it too long she might "itwaham" and the baby might come out looking similar to that"

I once saw a boy with Downe Syndrome, and was told that the mother whilst pregnant locked herself up in a room she had prepared with pictures of only the most beautiful actors and actresses so that when her baby was born, the baby would look like one of them. What a fright she must have had when she saw her baby as soon as he was born.

A`oodhubi'l-Laah min dhaalik.
