Sr. Lina, is it correct that they can only have soft cover books, not hard cover?

Lina

I have not been told that and it wasn't written on the recommended booklist for prisons but i will confirm it ASAP inshaAllaah.
I was told that they still have issues with CD's so not to collect any inshaAllah.
Jazac Allahu Khayr.

Just wondering why it is for brothers only and not also sisters? Or do we not have any Muslim females in prison?

Sisters will not be forgotten inshallah and we do know of at least a couple from the Muslim 'chaplin' to Victorian prisons. but the unfortunate fact is that there is well over 300 known brothers and no doubt probably more but jazakallahu khayr for ur reminder.

At the moment we have links with the chaplain that works with the brothers so InshaAllah he will be able to get the books in for us, but we don't have the same link with the sisters.
Alhumdulillaah the numbers of sisters seems to be quite low BUT we will be looking of ways to get the books into the libraries of the female prisons regardless of the quantity of Muslims as the books could be used as a means to bring non Muslims to Islam.

Although the title "Books For Brothers"....sounds better lol.

Are you giving Arabic books also?

Lina

Prisons do not permit hardcover books, with the exception of the Holy Qur'an.

Yes, we will ensure that the 2 women's prisons do not miss out inshaAllah

Q. Can we write encouraging notes in the books?

A. Sure, place an encouraging notes in books. No stickers as glue is suspect. Remember that security intel will be vetting books. No personal details.

Also, space has to be left on the inside cover for a prison name stamp and library jacket. Tiny booklet should be okay, but library books need space.

Im sure you all have many islamic books that you have already read just sitting on your book shelves gathering dust. Recycle them, pass them on to others, drop them into one of the locations where we have placed collection bins so we can pass them on to the brothers and sisters in Victorian prisons.

Locations:
IBC
HIYC
IISNA
MWEI
Ahlan Wa Sahlan
ISV

SubhanAllah, I never saw before.. I have many books that I can give.

A note though, this book - The Complete Idiot's Guide to Understanding Islam - Yahya Emerick - Is very very dodgy, I would never give it to anyone. If you want to know why just PM me.

We haven't received many books for this cause unfortunately. We need allot more, yalla spring clean your bookshelves. Books that you have read but will probably never read again. If its been there for over a year and you haven't picked it up...then donate it.
Give others a chance to read and be educated.

This is a great cause I am sure the brothers in prison will really appreciate these books and also that they are not forgotten by the muslim community.
If you felt some benefit from a book you have read, then what better thing to do but to pass it on to a fellow muslim who may also insha allah benefit.

a while back we collected a lot books from HIYC, we need to do another run around to all the locations to do a recheck.

unless someone would like to help out if they are in those locations and tell us how they are =D

our next step is to get in contact with the Brother who is the "Chaplin" for the Brothers in prison within Victoria so we can organise the delivery!

I was just thinking about this. MashaAllah I reckon this one of the best projects up and running. What a rewarding thing to do. Many of us have books collecting dust when there's brothers and sisters locked up that can benefit enormously with them.

Trials get you closer to Allah and I ask that these brothers and sisters in jail do grasp firmly to the seen of Allah. Imagine a book you donate/buy opens the door to their hidayah (by the will of Allah)
