assalamu alaykum.
we all know that suicide is haram. but some muslims think that collective suicide is halal. what am i talking about?
we are living a life of relative freedom in australia. for years, we have been standing on the fringes of society, choosing to make little contribution except carping from the sidelines.
when a few muslims with strategic thinking and nouse get involved in politics or business or professions or mainstream society, we find ways of disparaging them and attacking them.
we also find 101 excuses to avoid getting involved. we say voting is haram, political activity is haram, the australian system is kufr etc etc.
meanwhile tiny organisations like Hillsong gather force and are making waves that we could have easily made if we had gotten our act together.
and with that in mind, some of you will have sat like stunned mullets after watching the Sunday program about Hillsong and the rise of Australia's christian right.
now i know some of you will claim that it is just another cog in the conspiratorial wheel of kufr that is out to destroy islam. i know some of you are so afraid of kufr that you fear it even more than you fear Allah.
the Prophet (saw) was not afraid of kufr. he knew that taking on kufr required strategic thinking and even using their systems and networks against them. and he was facing an enemy far more dangerous and hostile.
so many australians welcome us to their country. they wished we would contribute and start talking sense for a change. yes, a small minority hate us. but the majority don't.
and if you don't believe me, we have on this forum members of anglo-australian background. ask them to put their fingers in the pulse of mainstream australia. ask them what the reality is.
if we continue to allow ourselves to be marginalised, to presume that the whole world hates us and is out to destroy us, we are in for some real beatings.
those muslims who tell us that participating in the mainstream community is haram, that voting is haram, that working in the business community is haram, that being lawyers and doctors and economists etc is haram ... i urge them to say what they really want to say. i ask them to declare that collective suicide is halal.
because their prescription is one of collective suicide.
ma salama
