Assalamu Alaikum,
Which area of Australia are you in and what is the situation of being a Muslim like there? Is it hard? Easy? Access to Islamic facilities?

assalamau alaikum,
I'm really wondering about people outside of Melbourne and Sydney because I know that they both tend to at least have some stuff alhamdulillah. Insha'Allah as more people from outside these places join we can hear what it's like for them. I will prod some of them now to speak up :)
wassalamu alaikum
Assalaamu alaikum,
I was "prodded" :? LOL
Being a new Muslimah (6 months now) I'm still kinda shy, so haven't been to a Mosque as yet. I know of 3 Mosques, Alhumdulillah, here in Brisbane. We also have a Halal convenience store, Alhumdulillah which is owned by a sister and her dh from Australian Muslimahs (Sis Rose where are you?).
I am seeing people become much more open towards Muslims up here, Masha'Allah. I've also noticed more Muslims out and about lately which I personally think is wonderful Alhumdulillah.
Last year the local gov't announced a fund for the Islamic community, basically enabling Muslims to become more active within the community in regards to shops, building Mosques etc. Not sure how that is going, Insha'Allah I will find out and be able to update you all on that.

Selamu aleykum wr wb....
Well I'm from Adelaide, i dont think there are many, or any people on this forum from down here... Oh wellz, I'll be the first!!!!
Adelaide alhamdulillah has a lot of Muslims, but unfortunately lacks unity.... My dad is an active and involved part of the community so I'm surrounded by Muslims - alhamdulillah... I also get lots of dawah oppurtunities here as well... Every school that I have been to for my teaching prac, is really interested to learn more about Islam. The last year I had my prac during Ramadan so the school I was at (a multicultural school), wanted to learn about Ramadan and Islam, which was excellent. The school I'm at this year is considerably a mono-culture school and the year 7 class are doing a study on religions, and one of the teachers came up to me, and asked me whether I would talk about evolution and Islam, and also what we believe in.... We have been invited to give talks at various places, so its been excellent, and inshaAllah we can help people along the way....
Access to Islamic facilities - well that can be a struggle at times. But you have to make do with what you have and make the most out of it. For example my dad is one of the directors of the (only) Islamic School, so I try and be helpful around there, lots of volunteering, helping kids... or like I do, take arabic classes (which I've just started), have girls/ladies nights where we get together discuss islamic matters, camps etc.... We have imams who visit from interstate giving talks, or just go the local one around... Its not too bad...
Your options here arnt as vast as the ones in Melb or Syd, but alhamdulillah... I think I went on far too long, sorry...
Hatice....

assalamu alaikum,
The unity problem isn't part of Adelaide's problem, its everywhere. Melb, Syd, wherever.
Adelaide sounds alrite alhamdulillah and it's great you get to participate and do things :) masha'Allah.
The da'wah efforts seem good you get to do at school. Share your experiences in the da'wah section. I'm interested how you explain things to kids/teenagers actually. The hardest thing I'm finding is figuring out how to speak to teenagers (Muslim) about Islam. They're the hardest to get across to!
If you need any help feel free to ask insha'Allah :) Insha'Allah there will be some interesting stuff to work on no matter where we are in helping our youth that we want to help organise :)
As for going on, keep going, it's very interesting to hear everyone's different experience.

I've had a lot of struggles with Muslim kids/teenagers, like you mentioned they are the hardest to get through to, yet at times they can be the easiest as well - it depends which way you look at it.... I've talked with a lot of knowledgable people about how to approach them...
I make sure I dont bog kids down with way too much philosophical information, I kinda consider myself a kid too....lol.... So they can relate to me and I can relate to them... No point in talking to them if your going to sound like their grandma.... I joke around, listen to them, yet at the same time make sound Islam fun - I try to get rid of stereotypes, sometimes even the teachers are shocked, i think thats a good thing, lol... But its been all positive...
I was a bit worried at first, you know, about how they'd react, but alhamdulillah... The first thing kids ask me is 'Miss ..... why do you wear that?'.... so i explain to them why, and then each day after that they comment on how beautiful it looks.... they are very very cute....

hmm, this sound interesting because i have a friend who used to live in Adelaide and she said that there's a big library in Adelaide with a very good quality books and i believe that this library is till there becasue she and her family goes there every now and then unless it's arabic library only.
anyway here's the contact deails for the library owner:
Shiekh Al Shareef 08/82773674
after that they comment on how beautiful it looks.... they are very very cute....
loooooool, you reminded me of my month teaching in grad 1 in weekend arabic school. there was this girl who used to come to me all the time and give me these letters which have hearts with words like i love you miss and so on and masha'allah she have a good skill in drawing so all of this have really touched my heart and i thought that this really sweet and cute. :o
but then later own i realised that she was doing this only to win my heart so she could act and do whatever she want  . can you imagin that a 5 year old is thinking that way.
:p @ me
anyway, yes there's also nice kids who really mean what they say and it's really amazing to see your affect on them and how you can change thier heart from hating you to loving you but be careful that they won't get attached so much to you or you will end up by breaking thier heart :(

Wassalamu Alaikum
Assalamu Alaikum,
well i read the messages about living in australia as a muslim, well am from england (UK) i dont find it hard being a muslim living in england becuase where am from there are LOADS of muslims around... there are loads of islamic facilities here for non muslims and muslims...., i though after 9/11 we might get troubled BUT it was nothing like that i mean the non muslims were normal with us (there were few incidents where a muslim got harrased but not as much in the USA) only thing that really got me mad was the POLICE they did alot of stop and search (on muslim brothers) espically after 9/11..but that has calm down abit...
