US president Barack Obama voiced concern at Hezbollah's growing role in the Syrian civil war after men from the Lebanese militia fought their biggest battle yet alongside president Bashar al-Assad's army.

Syrian activists say about 30 Hezbollah fighters and 20 Syrian soldiers and militiamen loyal to Mr Assad were killed during the fiercest fighting this year in the rebel stronghold of al-Qusair, close to the Lebanese border.

 Key points

*Fiercest fighting involving Hezbollah in Syria: activists
*Obama "concerned" by "growing" Hezbollah role in Syria
*Dozens killed in sectarian bloodshed in Iraq, Lebanon
*Israel threatens more strikes to keep arms from Hezbollah
*Assad says planned peace talks won't stop "terrorists"
*That would be the highest toll for Hezbollah in a single day's conflict in Syria, highlighting the increasing intervention by the guerrilla group and prompting Mr Obama to voice his concern to his Lebanese counterpart Michel Suleiman.

If confirmed, the Hezbollah losses also reflect how Syria is becoming a proxy conflict between Shiite Iran and Arab states like Saudi Arabia and Qatar, which back Mr Assad's mostly Sunni enemies.

Sectarian bombings in Iraq on Monday and killings in the Lebanese city of Tripoli compounded the sense of spreading regional confrontation.

Preparing for every scenario

The White House says Mr Obama spoke to Mr Suleiman and "stressed his concern about Hezbollah's active and growing role in Syria, fighting on behalf of the Assad regime, which is counter to the Lebanese government's policies".

The government in Beirut, however, has limited means to influence the politically and militarily powerful Hezbollah.

Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country was "preparing for every scenario" in Syria and held out the prospect of more Israeli strikes on Syria to stop Hezbollah and other opponents of Israel obtaining advanced weapons.

Israel has not confirmed or denied reports by Western and Israeli intelligence sources that three raids this year targeted Iranian missiles near Damascus that it believed were awaiting delivery to Hezbollah, which fought a war with Israel in 2006.

Syrian opposition sources and state media gave widely differing accounts of Sunday's ferocious clashes in al-Qusair, long used by rebels as a supply route from the nearby Lebanese border to the provincial capital Homs.

Hezbollah has not commented but several funeral processions could be seen in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley on Monday.

Pictures of dead fighters were plastered on to cars and mourners waved yellow Hezbollah flags.

Several ambulances were seen on the main Bekaa Valley highway and residents said hospitals had appealed for blood to treat the wounded brought back to Lebanon.

'No option off the table'

The latest developments come as Western nations are seeking to step up pressure on the Assad regime ahead of peace talks next month.

Britain's foreign secretary William Hague said "no option is off the table" over the possible arming of rebels - a position also supported by France - if the Syrian government does not negotiate seriously at the proposed talks.

In a statement to the House of Commons, Mr Hague said the European Union should rethink its embargo on sending weapons to arm rebels in war-torn Syria.

"The case for further amendments to the arms embargo on Syria is compelling in order to increase the pressure on the regime and to give us the flexibility to respond to continued radicalisation and conflict," he said.

Russia's foreign minister Sergei Lavrov, whose country has shielded Syria from UN Security Council action, said Syrian opposition representatives must take part without precondition, apparently a reference to their demands for Mr Assad's exit before they come to the table.

Five copper coins and a nearly 70-year-old map with an ‘‘X’’ might lead to a discovery that could rewrite Australia’s history.

Australian scientist Ian McIntosh, currently Professor of Anthropology at Indiana University in the US, plans an expedition in July that has stirred up the archaeological community.

The scientist wants to revisit the location where five coins were found in the Northern Territory in 1944 that have proven to be 1000 years old, opening up the possibility that seafarers from distant countries might have landed in Australia much earlier than what is currently believed.

Back in 1944 during World War II, after Japanese bombers had attacked Darwin two years earlier, the Wessel Islands - an uninhabited group of islands off Australia’s north coast - had become a strategic position to help protect the mainland.

Australian soldier Maurie Isenberg was stationed on one of the islands to man a radar station and spent his spare time fishing on the idyllic beaches.

While sitting in the sand with his fishing-rod, he discovered a handful of coins in the sand.

He didn’t have a clue where they could come from but pocketed them anyway and later placed them in a tin.

In 1979 he rediscovered his ‘‘treasure’’ and decided to send the coins to a museum to get them identified.

The coins proved to be 1000 years old.Still not fully realising what treasure he held in his hands, he marked an old colleague’s map with an ‘‘X’’ to remember where he had found them.

The discovery was apparently forgotten again until anthropologist McIntosh got the ball rolling a few months ago.

The coins raise many important questions: How did 1000-year-old coins end up on a remote beach on an island off the northern coast of Australia?

Did explorers from distant lands arrive on Australian shores way before James Cook claimed it for the British throne in 1770?

We do know already that Captain Cook wasn’t the first white seafarer to step on Australia’s shores.

In 1606 a Dutch explorer named Willem Janszoon reached the Cape York peninsula in Queensland, closely followed a few years late by another Dutch seafarer Dirk Hartog.

And the Spaniard Luiz Vaez de Torres discovered the strait between Papua New Guinea and Australia, which was later named Torres Strait in his honour.

However, none of these explorers recognised that they had discovered the famed southern continent, the ‘‘terra australis incognita’’, which was depicted as a counterweight to the known land masses of the northern hemisphere on many world maps of the day.

McIntosh and his team of Australian and American historians, archaeologists, geomorphologists and Aboriginal rangers say that the five coins date back to the 900s to 1300s.

They are African coins from the former Kilwa sultanate, now a World Heritage ruin on an island off Tanzania.

Kilwa once was a flourishing trade port with links to India in the 13th to 16th century.

The trade with gold, silver, pearls, perfumes, Arabian stone ware, Persian ceramics and Chinese porcelain made the city one of the most influential towns in East Africa at the time.

The copper coins were the first coins ever produced in sub-Saharan Africa and according to McIntosh have only twice been found outside Africa: once in Oman and Isenberg’s find in 1944.

The old coins might not be of monetary value, but for archaeologists they are priceless, says McIntosh.

Archaeologists have long suspected that there may have been early maritime trading routes that linked East Africa, Arabia, India and the Spice Islands even 1,000 years ago.

Or the coins could’ve washed ashore after a shipwreck.

When Isenberg discovered the copper coins he also found four coins that originated from the Dutch East India Company - with one dating back to 1690 raising memories of those early Dutch seafarers that stepped on Australian shores well before Cook.

McIntosh wants to answer some of these mysteries during his planned expedition to the Wessel Islands in July.

And it’s not only about revisiting the beach that was marked with an ‘‘X’’ on Isenberg’s map.

He will also be looking for a secret cave Aboriginal legends talk about.

This cave is supposed to be close to the beach where Isenberg once found the coins and is said to be filled with doubloons and weaponry of an ancient era.

Should McIntosh and his team find what they are looking for, the find might not only be priceless treasure, but relics that could rewrite Australian history

..... Apparently YES!!!

Today my car stopped working in the middle of a HUGE downpour, and because I didn't have my phone I had no option except to walk about 2km back to my house.

I was on Edgars Rd so hundreds of cars drove past and saw me battling against the rain, but nobody stopped.
Until a young male P plater pulled over and asked what happened, he saw me distressed and told me to go back and sit in my car so I could use his phone.

I sat in the car and he handed me the phone, I tried calling my brother but this young man's phone suddenly stopped working!

He was asking me what he could do to help, I was confused and couldn't think straight, my plan was to sit in the car until the rain cleared which wasn't a great option, so he drove all the way back to his dad's house and used his dad's phone to call my brother and explain to him where I was and what happened!

MashaAllah the boy was so respectful and at no point tried to get me in his car or enter my car, even when it was pouring on his head!

He had a Woolworths uniform on and had a name tag that said 'Kaled'. He looked around 18 or 19 years old.

If anyone knows this young man, please pass on my thanks and please let his parents know that they have raised a son with true kindness, patience and respect.
May Allah reward him for his efforts.
I'm hopeless in a crisis if he didn't stop I'd probably be camping in the car.
