"And strain not your eyes in longing for the things that We have given for enjoyment to various groups of them (the disbelievers) - the splendour of the life of this world - that We may test them thereby. And indeed, the provision (rizq) of your Lord is better and more lasting." [Surah Ta Ha, 131]

    Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) said, "Our Lord, the Blessed, the Superior, comes every night down on the nearest Heaven to us when the last third of the night remains, saying: "Is there anyone to invoke Me, so that I may respond to invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me, so that I may grant him his request? Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him?"

Abu Hurayrah & Ka'b Bin Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with them both) reported that the Prophet said: " The parable of a believer is that of a fresh and moist plant; the wind tilts it this way and that way; and so is the believer; he continues to be subject to affliction. And the parable of a hypocrite is that of a firm cedar tree; it does not shake - until it is uprooted all at once." [Bukhari & Muslim]

Abu Huraira reported that Allaah's Messenger said Allaah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: I live in the thought of My servant and I am with him as he remembers Me. (The Prophet) further said: By Allaah, Allaah is more pleased with the repentance of His servant than what one of you would do on finding the lost camel in the waterless desert. When he draws near Me by the span of his hand. I draw near him by the length of a cubit and when he draws near Me by the length of a cubit. I draw near him by the length of a fathom and when he draws near Me walking I draw close to him hurriedly. [Sahih al-Bukhari No. 6610]

One of them said to the others: Look to your good deeds that you performed for the sake of Allah and then supplicate Allah, the Exalted, that He might rescue you (from this trouble). One of them said: 0 Allah, I had my parents who were old and my wife and my small children also. I tended the flock and when I came back to them in the evening, I milked them (the sheep, goats, cows, etc.) and first served that milk to my parents. One day I was obliged to go out to a distant place in search of fodder and I could not come back before evening and found them (the parents) asleep. I milked the animals as I used to milk and brought milk to them and stood by their heads avoiding to disturb them from sleep and I did not deem it advisable to serve milk to my children before serving them. My children wept near my feet. I remained there in that very state and my parents too until it was morning. And (0 Allah) if Thou art aware that I did this in order to seek Thine pleasure, grant us riddance from this trouble. (The rock slipped a bit) that they could see the sky. The second one said: 0 Allah, I had a female cousin whom I loved more than the men love the women. I wanted to have sexual intercourse with her; she refused but on the condition of getting one hundred dinirs. It was with very great difficulty that I could collect one hundred dinirs and then paid them to her and when I was going to have a sexual intercourse with her, that she said: Servant of Allah, fear Allah and do not break the seal (of chastity) but by lawful means. I got up. 0 Allah, if Thou art aware that I did this in order to seek Thine pleasure, rid us from this trouble. The situation was somewhat eased for them. The third one said: Allah, I employed a workman for a measure of rice. After he had finished his work I gave him his dues (in the form of) a measure of rice, but he did not accept them. I used these rice as seeds, and that gave a bumper crop and I became rich enough to have cows and flocks (in my possession). He came to me and said: Fear Allah, and commit no crueltv upon me in regard to my dues. I said to him: Takeaway this flock of cows and sheep. He said: Fear Allah and do not make a fun of me. I said: I am not making a fun of you. You take the cows and the flocks. So he took them. 0 Allah, if Thou art aware that I did it for Thine pleasure, case the situation for us. And Allah relieved them from the rest of the trouble. [Sahih Muslim]

We are one, but we are many,
And from all the groups of Islam we come,
    We share a belief,
    And pray to one god,
I am, You are, We are Australian Muslims

Anyone ever stop to reflect upon this particular Aayah?

The affliction was so "violent" as the Aayah mentions, that the MESSENGER (!) with them says, "When will the help of Allaah come?"

    People...

... the MESSENGER is saying this!!!

One that has yaqeen that Allaah will not abandon them... yet the affliction was so great he had to ask, along with his followers!

We believe we have a shot at being admitted into Jannah, "while yet the state of those who have passed away before you has not come upon you" leaves me very pessimistic of the chances of me entering Jannah, let alone the Jannatu'l-Firdaws al-A`laa that I ask for in my prayers...

Sa’d ibn Waqas reported that the Prophet, said, “The supplication made by the Companion of the Fish [Prophet Yunus] in the belly of the fish was, ‘La ilaha illa anta, subhanaka, innee kuntu minadh-dhalimeen [there is no god but You, You are far exalted and above all weaknesses, and I was indeed the wrongdoer]’. If any Muslim supplicates in these words, his supplication will be accepted.” In another report we read, “I know words that will cause Allah to remove one’s distress. These are the words [of supplication] of my brother Yunus, peace be upon him,”

It was reported from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood that the Prophet said: “No person suffers any anxiety or grief, and says:

‘Allaahumma innee ‘abduka wa ibn ‘abdika wa ibn amatika, naasiyati bi yadika, maadin fiyya hukmuka, ‘adlun fiyya qadaa’uka, as’aluka bi kulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka aw anzaltahu fee kitaabika aw ‘allamtahu ahadan min khalqika aw ista’tharta bihi fee ‘ilm il-ghaybi ‘andak an taj’ala al-Qur’aana rabee’ qalbi wa noor sadri wa jalaa’a huzni wa dhahaaba hammi
[O Allaah, I am Your slave, son of Your slave, son of Your female slave, my forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is forever executed and Your decree over me is just. I ask You by every Name belonging to You which You named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or You taught to any of Your creation, or You have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur’aan the life of my heart and the light of my breast, and a departure for my sorrow and a release for my anxiety]’ - but Allaah will take away his sorrow and grief, and give him in their stead joy.” [Ahmad 1/391 and Al-Albaanee declared it sahih.]

Usamah bin Zaid [May Allah bepleased with them] reported: Messenger of Allah said, "A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and will be cast into Hell, and his intestines will pour forth and he will go round them as a donkey goes round a millstone. The inmates of Hell will gather round him and say:`What has happened to you, O so-and-so? Were you not enjoining us to do good and forbidding us to do evil?' He will reply: `I was enjoining you to do good, but was not doing it myself; and I was forbidding you to do evil, but was doing it myself".
    [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

May Allah enable us to be of those who firstly correct ourselves by enjoining the good and forbiding the wrong and then inform others to do so.

Narrated Al-Baraa' ibn 'Aazib (RA): We followed the Prophet out to attend the funeral of one of the Ansar men. When we reached the grave - before the man was buried - the Prophet sat down (facing the Qiblah) and we sat down encircling him. We sat still as if birds were on our heads, silent. The Prophet had a stick in his hand with which he would scratch up the sand. [He gazed at the sky and then down to the ground, repeating this three times] Then he said, "Seek the protection of Allah from the punishment of the Grave." He then continued, "When the believing soul is reaching the end of his time on earth, starting out in the hereafter, angels with white faces shining like the sun descend upon him from heaven, bringing with them one of the shourds of Paradise and Hanoot. They sit down around him as far as the eye can see. Then the Angel of Death comes and sits by his head and pronounces, 'O blessed soul, come out to the forgiveness and pleasure of Allah.' The soul will then come out like a drop of water coming out of the mouth of a water skin. And the Angel of Death will take it. [Until his soul comes out, every angel between the heavens and earth will pray for him, as will every angel in heaven. The gates of heaven will be opened for him, and the people in every level of heaven will pray to Allah to permit his soul to ascend through their domain.

Allâh has sent down the Best statement, a Book (this Qur'ân), its parts resembling each other (in goodness and truth), and oft-repeated. The skins of those who fear their Lord shiver from it (when they recite it or hear it). Then their skin and their heart soften to the remembrance of Allâh. That is the guidance of Allâh. He Guides therewith whom He wills and whomever Allâh sends astray, for him there is no guide.

    Surah az-Zumar, Ayah 23.
What is for you will not pass you and what passes you is not for you!
