“The Heart, in its journey to Allah swt is like that of a bird:
Love is its head, and fear and hope are its two wings. When the
head and two wings are sound the bird flies gracefully; if the
head is severed, the bird dies; if the bird loses one of its wings, it
then becomes a target for every hunter or predator.”

Oh sorry sister dot, I didn't check this topic in a while.

I think parents are a special case, and this is more in between friends. The lecturer gave an example of Ash-Shafi`i implementing this with a conversation that Ash-Shafi`i had with one of his best students.

One time Ash-Shafi`i was sick and one of his best students, Ar-Rabee`Ibn Suleiman Al-Muradi, came to visit him. So he was praying for him and he said "May Allah strengthen you [from] your weakness O Imam", but the way it was worded can be interpreted as "May Allah strengthen your weakness". So Ash-Shafi`i joked with him and said "If my weakness was strengthened, it would kill me", so Ar-Rabee` says "I did not mean that", so Ash-Shafi`i set him at ease and told him "O Rabee`, even if you hurled an insult at me blatantly, I would know you did not mean it".

This is to show their friendship, that even if he insulted him, they're such good friends that Ash-Shafi`i would know that he did not mean it.

Anas bin Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) he said that the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said (what means):

"Verily Allaah has prevented the repentance of every person of innovation"

    (at-Tabaraanee, al-Bayhaqee and others/ Authenticated by al-Albaanee).

The hadith does not mean his tawba is not accepted as Allah tells us in the Quran that he forgives all sins except Shirk. Rather what it means as Ibn Taymiyyah pointed out is that the person of innovation does not consider what he is doing as a sin so he doesnt seek tawba for it to begin with.

We should know that Allah has created us to live an eternal life with no death, a life of pride and ease with no humiliation, a life of securtiy with no fear, a life of richness with no poverty, a life of joy with no pain, a life of perfection with no flaws. Allah is testing us in this world with a life that will end in death, a life of pride that is accompanied by humiliation and degradation, a life that is tainted by fear, where joy and ease are mixed with sorrow and pain.

I know a good Chinese proverb I live by -

He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.
Whoever remembers death often will find a small amount (of worldly things) sufficient for him; and whoever includes his speech in his deeds will speak little.

Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils, and ever has Satan been to his Lord ungrateful. (Surat al Isra': 27)

It is reported that if Hishâm Al-Dustawâ`î – Allâh have mercy on him – didn’t have a torch on at home, he would toss and turn in bed until his wife would come with a torch. She asked him about this once, to which he replied, “If I don’t have a torch, I think about the darkness of the grave.”

Al-Dhahabî, Siyar A’lâm Al-Nubalâ`, in his biography of Hishâm Al-Dustawâ`î.
