“The planning of The Almighty (Allaah) is better for you than your own planning, and He could deprive you from what you ask to test your patience. So let Him see from you a determined patience and you will soon see from Him what will give you joy. And when you have cleaned the paths of answering (of supplication) from the stains of sin [i.e have repented] and were patient about what He has chosen for you, then everything that happens to you is better for you whether you were given or deprived of what you have requested.”

    [Imaam ibn Al-Jawzee]

"Say what you wish in abuse of me, for my silence towards an idiot is indeed an answer. I am not at a loss for a response but rather, It does not befit the lion to answer dogs." -

    Imam Shafi (rahimaullah)

There are four things you cannot recover in life:

    1. The stone after it's thrown
    2. The word after it's said
    3. The occasion after it's missed
    4. The time after it's gone
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

    Correction!

    The stone can be recovered!

    LoL

If you want to get really pedantic, I guess even then it could be retrieved.

Depends where exactly it is thrown.

But the saying didn't mention that. So one would have imagined I guess, that it was thrown on dry land

Ibn Jawzee said: "Whoever wants to have everlasting peace and well-being with no affliction, does not understand the meaning of Allah’s commandments, nor does he perceive the meaning of submission to Allah. Every person (either believing or disbelieving) shall inevitably taste suffering in this world, for this life is based on hardships. Man lives between comfort and suffering. Prophet Adam, for instance, had the angels prostrated before him and yet was soon after expelled from Paradise. A believer is afflicted with trials in order to refine him, not to punish him. He is tested in ease as well as in hardship. Allah says, "And We tried them with good (blessings) and evil (calamities) in order that they might turn (to Allah’s obedience)." [Al-A'raaf 7: 168]

We should know that Allah has created us to live an eternal life with no death, a life of pride and ease with no humiliation, a life of security with no fear, a life of richness with no poverty, a life of joy with no pain, a life of perfection with no flaws. Allah is testing us in this world with a life that will end in death, a life of pride that is accompanied by humiliation and degradation, a life that is tainted by fear, where joy and ease are mixed with sorrow and pain.

One of the Umayyad Khalifa's asked Ibn Hazm "Why do we fear death? He replied "Because we hate to go from what we have built, to what we have destroyed."

"We have witnessed a people to each and every one of whom death is preferable to life, and humility to prominence, and none of whom this world has the least attraction. They sit not except on the ground, eat naught but on their knees. Their leader (Amir) is like unto one of them: the low cannot be distinguished from the high, or the master from the slave. And when the time of prayer comes none of them absents himself, all wash their extremities and humbly observe their prayers."

    - Cyrus, the Archbishop of Alexandria commenting on Muslims, 639 CE

"O son of Adam, do not be happy with richness and do not despair of poverty. Do not feel sad during affliction and do not rejoice over prosperity, for just as gold is tried by fire, the pious are tried by affliction. You will not attain what you want except by giving up what you desire, and you will not attain what you aspire to except by enduring patiently what you hate, and exerting yourself in implementing that which has been made compulsory upon you (by Allah)." [Ali radiallahu anhu]

To the founder of the "Burn A Qur'an Day" "Pastor" Terry Jones and it's followers, thank you for buying those Qur'ans you're burning, you're lining the pockets of the Muslims by purchasing them. Second, burning it is one of the permissible ways to dispose of a Qur'an. If you're gonna do it, thank you! Atleast you're doing it the Islamic way. -Bonsai Sky

this has to be the best quotes describing wealth!

wealth should be veiwed just like a toilet, in that you have need for it and resort to it when necessary, but it has no place in your heart.

Beware of following your brother just because he agrees with you over an opinion and oppose another because he disagrees with you over an opinion or an issue.
