“The closer we come to God, the freer we become. The further we go from God, the less free we are, until we are complete slaves to our appetites. And that is utter abasement.” Shaykh Hamza Yusuf (may Allah swt preserve him)
Ibn Taymiyya (r) said: The Way of those Shuyukh of Tasawwuff is to call people to Allah's Divine Presence and obedience to the Prophet (Majma'a Fatawa Ibn Taymiyya, Dar ar-Rahmat, Cairo. Vol 11. Pg 497)

“O Bilal! Bring comfort to us by it,” [prophet Muhammad ]

^Whenever the Prophet got concerned about a matter, he used to rush to perform the prayer and would say the above (telling Bilal to call the adhan) How true and beautiful is the above. How many distressed souls has the comfort of prayer given?

Seeing Aafia so content and bubbly all the time, her own psychiatrists have gone to her for help, asking her “How do you stay so content? What’s your secret?” Thus, she concluded, “I don’t need those doctors, they need me!”

    The best kind of friends,
Is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with,
    Never say a word,
And then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.

Always put yourself in others' shoes.
If you feel that it hurts you,
It probably hurts the other person, too.

    The happiest of people
    Don't necessarily have the best of everything;
They just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

'There is no God worthy of worship except Allah' is something that Allah is buying. It's price is Paradise, and the Messenger (saw) is its agent, and you will be pleased to part with a small part of this worldly life to obtain it. The part you lose is a small part of something that as a whole is not worth a mosquito's wing.

    Ibn Qayim Al Jawziwah
When Allah tests you, it is never intended to destroy you.
When He removes something in your possession,
it is only in order to empty your hands for an even greater gift."

    Happiness lies for
    Those who cry,
    Those who hurt,
    Those who have searched,
    And those who have tried,
For only they can appreciate the importance of people
    Who have touched their lives.

Someone said to Al-Hasan Al-Basree "We are unable to perform the night prayer so prescribe me a cure.” Al-Hasan Al-Basree said, “Do not disobey Him during the day and He will help you stand before Him during the night."

Wealth should be viewed just like the toilet, in that you have need for it and resort to it when necessary, but it has no place in your heart.

Fear has its use, but cowardice has none. I may not put my hand into the jaws of a snake, but the very sight of the snake need not strike terror into me. The trouble is that we often die many times before death overtakes us.
    Mahatma Gandhi
How canst thou say to thy brother,Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.

The Prophet Muhammad, may peace and blessings be upon him, said “Islam began as something strange, and it shall return to being something strange, so give glad tidings to the strangers.”

Taken from Shaykh Yahya Rhodus’ class on Shafi’i Fiqh

"If the kings, and the sons of the kings, only knew what we have (Islaam) in of joy and comfort, they would fight us over it with their swords to attain what we possess of the taste of life and the scarcity of discomfort." [Ibraaheem ibn Ad-ham]

If you persevere in adversity and depend on Allah, then know that He will remove your afflictions and bestow vast blessings upon you.
For in His Book Allah promises, “Those who depend upon Allah, Allah bestows His bounty upon them and provides for them from means unknown.” Therefore follow the road of patience and rejoice in His infinite bounty.

    Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jillani
Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.

O you who believe! Seek help in patience and As-Salat (the prayer). Truly! Allah is with As-Sabirin (the patient ones.). (Chapter 2, Verse 153)
