Assalaamu Alaykum
I tried this tonight. Not bad. Atleast it was something different
1 Melt about 15g of butter in a frying pan, add a peeled and finely diced onion with a clove or two of crushed garlic. Cook for about 5mins or until soft. Remove from the pan.
2 Melt about 15g of butter in a frying pan and brown chicken pieces. Remove from the heat.
3 Slice button mushrooms and fry in the pan. Once done, return the onion mix and chicken to the pan.
4 Stir through 2 tbl tomato paste and 150g sour cream, stirring occasionally. If the taste is too strong or the mixture too thick, simply add water.
5 Season and serve with pasta or rice. I simply served it with polenta and some roasted-honey-glazed sweet potato.

It's the name of the dish sis. Comes from Russian. It refers to a dish made with sour cream and other stuff (theres lots of different recipes). You can get beef stroganoff / chicken stroganoff etc. The consistent thing seems to be that it is has sour cream in the recipes. Maybe stroganoff refers to sour cream?
