hm, how can i contact this woman police officer? Google it?
teaching islam full time is good, but i belive i can MAKE A DIFFERENCE by doing something more practical. id like to do something that many others hesitate doing. i amm very aware that policing is nothing like u see on TV, and im prepared for that.
i'll do istikhara insha ALLAH. ive talked to my career adviser already LOTS of times, i can work for customs, she says.
ive also listed all my interests down. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS to what i can do in uni?

yes, ur absoluley right. the thing not everyone can start teaching islam all of a sudden. i dont want to lose my motivation because im not learned yet, people will hopefully listen to me more if im a police officer, because todays society doesnt listen to "un-educated" people cus they think theyre dumb (astagfirullah). im actually much better at conveying islam through the way i act.
im always the person who is told "your the first muslim ive spoken to who has told me that...". and i want to continue being that person. if ive got the ambition to teach non muslims about islam then i have to interact with them effectively. i had a friend who was annoyed with me because "muslim girls arent allowed to do anything". after she saw how normal i was without being so, er, "out there". she began admiring islam for its respect in women. im also the 1st person who many people have watched pray.
astagfirullah i hope i dont sound up myself, i also told people theres no need for a career, but my strengh in communicating about islam to non muslims proved effective in school and training, so i hope to clear misconception by being a physical proof of what islam really is.
The head police guy told the Imaam of a perth mosque to encourage muslims to join their force.
May ALLAH do wats best.

Have you seen this article sis?
http://www.theage.com.au/news/Nation...om=moreStories
Note: I am not telling you to become a police officer, and I am not telling you not to - I think you should pray Istikhar and see where Allah guides you. You seem like a young intelligent Muslimah, and I think you are smart enough to know what is right for you Insha'Allah. Lots of muslim women work in jobs with men - even with teaching for example, you have to interact with men (unless its a segregated islamic school - which I would much prefer) but we dont always get those options...Khair inshallah, maybe you should ask a sheikh this question - somebody who can give you a proper answer.

Nice article, thanks sis ZENA, ppl should read this other on aswell.
I am a constable of police in Victoria, I migrated from Lebanon in September 2000. I have a bachelor in Graphic Design and Diploma in Quality management. I speak fluent Arabic, English and French.
-I am currently positioned at Narre Warren police Station in the south eastern suburbs. Recently 50% of my time has been temping at various police crime departments assisting my senior colleagues in issues about the Middle Eastern culture and religion.
-I have joined Victoria Police in July 2004 after a tedious application process, were I had to prove that wearing a scarf is not an obstacle when you want to make a difference; thankfully with a bit of perseverance and lot of support from everyone, I managed to overcome all the barriers and graduated form the academy in November 2004.
-In an effort to work on the roots of my community in Victoria, I have concentrated my eff in the past two years in community work educating the Muslim and Arabic community on their rights as well as their obligations in Australia.
-I did this by going around the schools and community centres giving talks and conducting workshops on how women in general and Muslim Women in particular can stand up to make a difference and change the existing stereotypes.
-this by knowing how to and where to access in order to be an efficient Australian citizen and meet their obligation towards themselves first, their families, and their country so that they not only be accepted and embraced but also ways in which they could add an extra pair of helping hands.
Since then, I had been fortunate enough to be involved in school projects, government and private, community groups (in Newport, Footscray, Dandenong and Coburg/Preston) in an effort to encourage the students, community members to get out in the community and be involved and be proactive rather than just reactive.
- As for my work in Victoria Police, it has been a mixture of “on the beat” work by doing normal day to day police work along with visiting various crime departments such as Sex crime Squad, Tactical response Squad, Organised crime squad as well as tasked operation 400.
-During my short assignments in those squads, I assisted in investigating crimes that relate to people form Middle East background in general and Lebanese in particular.
-My contribution was in giving a brief introduction about issues in politics, religion, and cultural in a Middle Eastern perspective. I attempted to provide education about a number of ways that people from Lebanese or Middle East backgrounds think, behave and do their day to day activities.
- My contribution also included brief introductions on the difference between Arabs and Muslims (as we all know not all Arabs are Muslims and not all Muslims are Arabs) and how Muslims are living in Australia in general and Melbourne in particular.
-I hope, through my work within the police, the community, and other public relation, and public speaking opportunities to change the perception of mainstream Australians, members of Victoria Police, and any interested organisation about Muslims/Arabs in general and Muslim/Arab women in particular. Thus defeat the current negative stereotypes in the media and talk back shows.
-I also hope that my efforts will bring my community closer to the Australian police and mainstream organisations who have been misunderstood by few.
- I hope finally and with great humility, to set up a role model for the Muslim youth in general and Muslim girls in particular to follow so that more youth join the force or at least help this great nation become greater.Remember that the devil only has ONE GOAL - to put as many of the sons of Adam in the HellFire as he can.

Sorry to be straightfoward sis (wallah not trying to be offensive), but I wouldnt let my daughter be a police officer as well. I think Your parents are right on that decision.
Sis if you have listed your interests, well then look at you second interest that tops the lists, find out its benefits/negatives, then do that to all the other interests on your list. Once you have writen up the pro/cons of each Interest start the elimination, do this by eliminating the Interests that have the LEAST benefits islamically esp. Then once you have reached the last two. Think about them, and pray Istikharaa. By Allah subhanahu wa ta3alah your heart will be content at the right decision Insha'Allah
If you make intense supplication and the timing of the answer is delayed, do not despair of it. His reply to you is gauranteed; but in the way He chooses, not the way you choose, and at the moment He desires, not the moment you desire.

black_blood, it would be great if you could get in contact with that female Muslim police officer, and see what her job involves. She seems to have over come some obstacles, it might be that some of the things you are worried about might not even be an essential part of the job!"Have they not travelled in the land so that they should have hearts with which to understand, or ears with which to hear? For surely it is not the eyes that are blind, but blind are the hearts which are in the breasts."

why? I think the force needs more 'non anglo/diverse' types.

Well as has been mentioned repeated in this thread it would be very hard for a Muslim woman who wears hijab to be a cop without compromising in the way she dresses, e.g. wearing pants etc. Also, from what I know, training to be a cop has a strong physical component as well that would be hard in a skirt and the fact that it will be done in front of other males.
Interestingly there is an ad running in the mX newspapers about the cops requiring people from diverse background and there is a picture of a woman wearing hijab, but with jeans."Have they not travelled in the land so that they should have hearts with which to understand, or ears with which to hear? For surely it is not the eyes that are blind, but blind are the hearts which are in the breasts."

and Allah is most severe in punishment, Allah is also most jealous of what is prohibited, partners worshipped beside Him will not be tolerated.

Police officer doesn't just mean shooting bad guys during high speed chases. There's forensics, canine units, mounted and bike patrols, water patrol, drug and narcotics, gang units...the possibilites are very open.
I think many more Muslims should be in law enforcement.
A wonderful service to the community.
