As-Salaam Alaykum,
Many think it is a good idea to transgress against the major scholars and throw their names around lightly and irresponsibly in the way of political discussions and debates.
What makes it worse is that these men are often the scholars of Tawheed and the Sunnah, who, with the natural errors of man, spent their entire lives teaching and serving the Ummah.
Shaykh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi here says some beautiful words regarding Shaykh Abdul-Aziz Ibn Abdullah Ibn Baz, shortly after the Imaam's death. Perhaps it be a reminder to all of us, especially myself, that the scholars of the Sunnah are not the candy of the bored, but the scholars who the Ummah owes too much to mention.
May Allah have mercy on the Shaykh, forgive his and our shortcomings, and guide the masses towards respect of the major scholars.
Rough Translation:
At the death of the Shaykh:
The Faqeeh, the Hujjah, the Shaykh Abdul-Aziz Ibn Abdullah Ibn Baz, who lived his blessed life calling to Tawheed and fighting Shirk, and advising, teaching and giving verdicts. He was, may Allah have mercy on him, a star from the stars of guidance, an ocean of the oceans of knowledge, a mountain from the mountains of jurisprudence, who stood strong against the storms and did not fear the blame of the blamers. The Shaykh was a scholar who was extraordinary, in an age in which the scholars were few.
