Alhmadulilah in Melbourne alone there were 46 blankets/sleeping bags that were donated and given to St Vincent De Paul -Crisis House and the Homeless Day Centre. May Allah swt reward those who donated immensely in this life and the next, ameen.

Alhamdulillah, this year the Ansaar Project collected 276 sleeping bags and blankets in 5 major cities in Australia and New Zealand. Most of these have already been distributed, with distribution to be completed soon in Auckland (through Rasheed Memorial Daawah Trust) and in Sydney’s west

Alhamdulilah, as this thread has been reinstated and with this being the main thread for this project, i’ll place the updates here.

The annual sleeping bag and blanket drive is under way again until the 3rd July. We have more drop off points in Australia this year so more of the community have the opportunity to donate. Please click here for more information, and check this page often for project updates

This year, Masha Allah, the blanket Drive includes TEN various locations around Australia and New Zealand- Muslim organisations and communities working together As part of The Ansaar Project, to serve the needy amongst their local people.

Sad news, i've been made aware that two more sisters in Sydney are out on the streets suffering from the cold at night. The homeless do take care of their sleeping bags well and they are proud to hang onto them. Please do bring them into the collection points listed on the flyer (post #8) asap.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I read this post so I had to read it twice to make sure - how come muslim sisters are sleeping on the streets?

This is just so indescribably wrong and these sisters would be completely vulnerable.

Is there no welfare or shelter system in Sydney?

There are many homeless people, Muslims and non-Muslims. Varying circumstances, ie family problems lead to them being out on the street. We run a feeding the homeless program where we feed around 400 people per month. It is really heart breaking when you speak to them about what they go through, and we try and support them as much as we can through our Ansaar Project

Thank you all for your support and donating sleeping bags and blankets. We collected around 250 sleeping bags and blankets in total, all of them in excellent condition, Alhamdulillah. A lot of people in need on the streets as homeless will be spared the cold nights and may Allah reward you.

I know the reality on the street; we have been doing this for years now and have spent time on the streets to know by experience the difficult situation. Al-Ghazzali Centre will continue to facilitate such acts of goodness and kindness and we deeply appreciate your assistance to make this a real success.

With Spring upon us, this years sleeping bag and blanket drive has now concluded. 381 sleeping bags and blankets were collected throughout Australia and New Zealand throughout the winter.

The collected blankets and bags were then distributed in each of the cities where they were located, mainly to family support and homeless shelters
