I know a sister who is related but I don't want to intrude. And he's not a recent immigrant from what I know.
I hope everyone here with kids takes a lesson from this inshaAllah."Ask questions from the learned, speak with the wise, and associate with the poor."

hmm I saw the brother on the news just now and the family. I remember how he used to always talk about his twins with such affection mashaAllah. May Allah azzawajal rectify their affairs and make them draw closer to him through this and grant them all a quick recovery.

I would strongly recommend to those who are squeamish, not to read any of the media reports. The mental images alone are very hard to take especially when you can put a face to these children's names.
Again, I hope every parent here (and most of you here are) makes an effort to store any dangerous product well out of the way of their children.
Just recently I was looking after a beautiful 3 year old and I when I got there, I found a huge chunk of her hair/plait sitting on the floor. When I asked what happened, her 5 year old sister said she wanted to cut her hair. My immediate thought was how in the Hell did this child have access to scissors which could cut through an entire plait of hair!
ANYTHING, scissors, toxic cleaning products, gas cylinders...all of these things should be well out of reach of young children. Learn from this tragedy people and say Alhamdulillah it didn't happen to yours."Ask questions from the learned, speak with the wise, and associate with the poor."

Agreed, TP. Sure, Allah azzawajal is our Protector, but we need to tie our camels.
May Allah swt grant the children and their father a speedy recovery aameen.Whoever remembers death often will find a small amount (of worldly things) sufficient for him; and whoever includes his speech in his deeds will speak little.

I just saw a sister who knows the family well and she's about to visit them. She said the mother is distraught understandably. I offered on behalf of all of us, if there is anything we can do to please just let us know, and also asked her to let the family know that they are all in our dua's.

TP: The reality is that kids get to things no matter how hard you try. You can only do so much. It also only takes one moment for you to forget something out for an accident to happen. You can't protect them from everything unfortunately. Once kids are old enough to climb things they can get to anything. And if they have siblings who are older than can leave things around or get to things then even more so. You'd be amazed how smart they are to open things that you thought they couldn't possibly do.
anyways don't want to detract the topic. may Allah grant the family much patience and give them a quick recovery.Al-Hasan al-Basri said of hypocrisy: No one fears it but a believer, and no one feels safe from it but a hypocrite.

I agree Fatima. But Allah also teaches us lessons in the subtlest of ways. If every parent here toaday makes an effort to walk away from their pcs/iPhones and does a quick check in the laundry or shed, then something good can come from this inshaAllah.

SubhanAllah, there are no words to describe our sorrow for the family other than to ask Allah to make it easy for them and give them Al Firdaous.
Twin boys who suffered life-threatening burns at their home in Melbourne’s south-east last night may have been playing with matches before an explosion tore through their garage, according to their grandfather.
The four-year-old brothers remain in a critical condition in hospital while their father is also being treated for burns to his hands and feet after the blast at the Fordholm Road property at Hampton Park just after 7pm.
Horrified neighbours tried desperately to pour water over the twins, one of whom suffered burns to 80 per cent of his body, while the other suffered burns to 50 per cent of his body.

Henry Ozsoy said his wife had been driving past the home last night when she saw flames engulfing the garage.
She stopped to help but there was little she could do to help the horrifically burnt boys, he said.
‘‘She still feels guilty there was not more [that] she could do. She just wanted to snap her fingers and relieve them of their pain,’’ Mr Ozsoy said outside house today.
Mr Ozsoy said he attended Narre Warren police station with his wife last night to talk to police, during which time he also spoke with the twins’ grandfather.
‘‘What he told me was that they were playing with matches,’’ Mr Ozsoy said.
‘‘I believe [the family] were going overseas for a vacation and they were also moving at the same time so they had all their furniture and all the cleaning products ... in the garage, so maybe I’m thinking just one spark led to it. If you had a petrol bottle there for the lawn mower, that could have lit that up.’’
Neighbour Travis Graeske said he saw flames coming from the garage and heard glass smashing as he ran across the road to help.
"One of the grandparents was out the front just crying, just begging for help," Mr Graeske told radio 3AW.
"So I tried to get to the back of the garage because me and a mate could hear screams and the smash of glass and we didn’t know how many people were in there, who was in there, how to get them.
"We got to about 20 metres and the flames were way, way too high. We just couldn’t get any further, it was just too much heat coming out of there . We just got to the house and just pretty much got everybody out of the house and got them to the front."
Paramedic David Kervin said the boys were believed to have been playing in the garage when the explosion occurred, igniting their clothes.
The boys’ 30-year-old father is thought to have smashed a garage window and desperately tried to put out the flames with his hands and feet.
Mr Graeske said he watched on in horror as one of the boys then walked out of the garage.
"His singlet was burnt into his skin, he was missing multiple layers of skin all over his body and just explosions kept going and then the other boy came out," he said.
"Everything, just the smell, the screaming ... It’s like something out of movie, you’ve just never seen that stuff before."
Mr Graeske said a neighbour grabbed the boys and took them to a tap, where they helped to scoop water over the boys’ burnt skin.
"[One of the boys] was in shock. I don’t understand how he wasn’t crying because you couldn’t even look at it," Mr Graeske said.
"I think the shock was initial for the first two, three minutes, four minutes, and then after that the pain kicked in and he was screaming.
"As soon as we got water on them they just started screaming, and I think that’s when they had an inkling what was going on."
The children were then placed in separate helicopters and flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital, while their father was taken to Dandenong Hospital.
Mr Graeske said the garage where the explosion occurred was filled with old furniture, including barbecues and gas cylinders.
He said one of the family members salvaged the furniture from the hard rubbish collection, before repairing it.
The family generally kept to themselves, but Mr Graeske said he often saw the twins playing out the front on their bikes.

Don't know if this counts, but on Ch7 news just before it said they're still all the usual stuff; critical condition, one has 80% burns to his body and the other 50%, and a burns expert said that their skin will be better at healing compared to adults because they're still kids.
I drove past the house on the way home from work before and they still had a police ribbon tied across the driveway.
