US drone crashes in Somalia
Another unmanned US drone has crashed in the southern region of Somalia as violence continues to intensify in the war-torn country, Press TV reports.
According to Somali government officials, the US drone crashed in the south Somalia town of Kismayo, a Press TV correspondent reported on Sunday.
Witnesses say a powerful explosion was heard in the region, injuring several civilians.
Further details have not yet been released.
The Kismayo port town is located about 500 kilometers (310 miles) south of the capital Mogadishu and is under the control of al-Shabab fighters.
The US has recently stepped up its drone operations in the famine-stricken country.
Somalia is the sixth country where the US military has engaged in unauthorized aerial bombing campaigns through the use of its remote-controlled aircraft.
The US has also deployed its so-called drones for aerial attacks in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, Iraq, and Yemen.
Washington claims the airstrikes target militants, though most of such attacks have mostly resulted in civilian casualties.
