oh.. there has been concern that there might be cameras at the clubs.. no cameras.. and for those with children.. good things are coming (at Epping).. in around two weeks.. making it possible for you to come with your children. .. and the design ideas there are awesome.. the new franchisee has awesome ideas that will make it a lovely club for more than just "work outs" .. and the more members the better the facilities will be. She has great ideas .. and over 50 percent of the members are Muslims..

but enough about Fernwood.. Najah.. I lost all my weight using a version of the swap it campaign. I gave up some things that I didn't want to include in a healthy diet but otherwise swapped things or reduced portions.. combined with exercise it really works. masha'Allah

I wish they had a Fernwood down this end. I loved my old Fernwood. I think they should get one around Greenvale.

Sis on the Ring Road it only takes me 15 minutes from Fawkner.. sometimes less. It really is an easy drive.. I love Fernwood too.. it's becoming like a family now with everyone supporting each other and looking out for each other.. and a great dawah opportunity with so many Muslim women as well. Opens the door for many talks with non muslims about why we cover and our religion. ..

I had an awesome spot at Greenvale Reservoir where I would shoot but it's been closed for over a month due to industrial action.

If anybody owns a farm ...

The end of the semester is fast approaching so I will make the most of it, and probably go on my first hunt inshaAllah.
Yeah it's a bit of a family activity alhumdulliah, even my 3 y.old son has one which he loves lol,
At the moment I'm using my husband's Bear Montana Longbow but it's 45 lbs so there's a little too much resistance for me, I can take a few shots with it but unsuitable for a long period of time. I'd like to get a recurve bow, but these things ain't cheap so I'll wait a little bit for now.
We set up a target in our backyard so we spend some time practicing there, plus my cousin and my husbands friend both own farms so we have that too. My husband tried a few places for hunting, but lost a few arrows in the process...
I'd definitely be interested in developing more skill and would like to go to a proper archery place, speaking of which I remember you mentioned there's one in Eltham? Whats the name of the place? And where abouts exactly?

I felt like a naughty creamy chicken scallopini tonight but opted to make a much healthier chicken cacciatore instead, turned out quite nice mashaa'Allah. I served it with basmati rice for the family, but for the carb conscious I just have a side of steamed veg. It was very satisfying Alhumdullilah!

Here's the recipe I used in case anyone is interested:
    3 tbs olive oil
3 chicken breasts cut into big pieces (I used chicken breast to keep it low fat but generally you can use other cuts of chicken such as thighs or drumsticks etc.)
    1 large onion, chopped
    2 celery sticks, chopped
    2 carrots, peeled, chopped
(capsicum is also a nice addition if you prefer)
    3 garlic cloves, crushed
    125g button mushrooms, sliced
    400g can diced Roma tomatoes
    1 cup of tomato passata
    1/2 tsp brown sugar
    1 tbs balsamic vinegar
1 tbs chopped fresh rosemary (I also added fresh mint and thyme as it was available)
1 bay leaf (only really need to add if cooking thigh/drumsticks)
    150ml chicken stock
    1 cup pitted black olives
Spices such as Italian herb mix, Vegeta, salt and cracked black pepper, paprika and chilli go nice as well.
I can if cannellini beans (optional)
Chopped flat-leaf parsley, to garnish (optional)

    Method
Heat the oil in a large casserole dish over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook until browned all over. Transfer to a plate and set aside. Add the onion, celery, carrot (capsicum) to the pan and cook over low heat for 5 minutes until the onion softens. Add the garlic and mushrooms and cook for a further minute.
Return chicken pieces to the pan and allow to simmer 1-2 minutes.
Add the tomatoes, sugar, vinegar, herbs/spices and stock. Bring to the boil, then reduce heat to low and cook, covered, for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the olives (and cannellini beans if using) and cook for a further 10 minutes.
Transfer chicken to a platter, then reduce the sauce over high heat for 5-6 minutes. Serve garnished with the parsley.

    MashaAllah, keep it up inshaAllah.

I've never used a longbow; I started off with a recurve then bought a compound bow which is rated at a maximum of 60 lbs.

If you continue to find it difficult to pull 45 lbs, consider purchasing a compound bow as there is a let-off point and after that point you are, in effect, only pulling a total of about 20% because the remaining 80% of tension is stored in the cams or wheels. With recurve and longbows there is no let-off point so whilst aiming you continue to pull a considerable amount of weight.

You're right about them not being cheap and losing arrows is not cool; they cost about $10 each.

My backyard is too small to shoot and it's too dangerous to shoot in the local park; the last thing I want is a stray arrow finding a child and getting done for manslaughter...

I have a target, but I plan on making a better one over the holidays, inshaAllah.

I go to Diamond Valley Archers in Yarrambat, close to Greensborough. They have an indoor, outdoor, and 3D target range; a friendly bunch:

Address: Yean Yea Road, Yarrambat Victoria Australia.

Btw - I have an archery thread here, so if you want to discuss anything archery related or post pics of your target shots etc. feel free.

I now need to get a car so I can go and do archery!
My family use to always take us out to Launching Place (not like anyone would know where that is) and we'd practice.
Got a scar on my thumb from my arrow doing something funny and ended up cutting my skin when it went flying

I guess you're talking about Yarra Valley Archery Park which is a far distance from where I live; though I'd like to try it out one day.

Shooting a bow requires extra attention to the correct shooting method, otherwise you can seriously injure yourself and/or cause extensive damage to your bow.

If you eat in excess of fat your body will be in a state of confusion of what to do with it, hence, your metabolism slows dramatically in order for the body to start extracting the fat and then eventually store it. In other words it takes longer to process the food because of fat extraction and storage and your metabolism is just waiting until the body finishes with what it wants.

With Thanksgiving here tomorrow and lotsa turkey being eaten, here are some health benefits of eating the bird:

    1. Get Your Protein

There are about 32 grams of protein in a 4-ounce serving of turkey, making it a very good source of these essential amino acids. Just one serving of turkey provides 65 percent of your recommended daily intake of protein. Eat a turkey sandwich for lunch and you'll almost have your daily protein covered. Its protein content makes turkey a healthy meat choice.

    2. Protect Yourself From Cancer

A little-known health benefit of turkey is that it contains trace minerals thought to aid in cancer prevention. Turkey contains selenium, which is essential for the healthy function of the thyroid and immune system. Selenium also has an essential role to play in your antioxidant defense system, helping to eliminate cancer-friendly free radicals in the body.

    3. Get Your B Vitamins

Turkey is a nutrient rich food, making it a healthy choice year-round. A serving of turkey meat has 36 percent of the daily allowance of Vitamin B3 or niacin, which plays a critical role in the processing of fats in the body and 27 percent of your recommended intake of B6, a vitamin that helps maintain steady blood sugar levels.

    4. Benefit From Less Saturated Fat

Saturated fat is necessary for biological functions, hormone production, padding for organs and energy. While saturated fat is necessary for a healthy body, most moderately-active people should be mindful of overindulging. Turkey has less than 12 percent of the recommended daily allowance of saturated fat per 4-ounce serving.

    5. Choose Organic, Pasture-Based Turkey

Grass-fed turkey raised under organic conditions convey the most health benefits, as they offer higher nutritional value and are superior to birds given antibiotics or raised without access to natural pasture. Consider looking for a local, grass-based poultry farm when shopping for organic turkeys.
