Another tip for those who love creamy dishes (paste, risotto etc) replace the cream with a tin of evaporated cream. Its 75% less fat and tastes as good.

I learnt a new variation of skipping today Alhamdulillah - heart rate has definitely spiked after it. I still fall into amazement as to how effective simple jumps can build and maintain solid stamina and even build your lower body's strength.
A note to starters, when you start skipping, be sure to ready your calves for a thrashing, since your calves are doing most of the propulsion of the entire body and since you are new to skipping, your calves are not used to it and therefore the muscle strands break and tear and you will probably have a throbbing pain for about a week until the muscle strands heal again and they are ready for the next thrash session inshallah. So if they're hurting then you're doing something right! First time that happened to me when I first started I couldn't even walk! And just recently, a couple of weeks back, I injured my calves and it took about 3 days to heal.
So take it easy as well, build co-ordination between your brain and your limbs (nureo pathways) and inshallah you'll get better at it. Practice makes perfect.

Hey welcome back, you've been MIA from this thread for awhile...
I've always wanted to skip like a boxer but don't know how. I just do the regular jumps which can be more strain on your joints. The Biggest Enemy of Islam is Ignorance.

BarakAllahu Feeki, I've just been a bit busy with some things Alhamdulillah.
As for skipping like a boxer, it all has to do with repetition and building coordination between your brain and limbs. It took me about 20mins to get used to my new variation.
Best thing about skipping like a boxer is it imitates many kinds of exercises such as running, star jumping, jogging, leaping, and more. And because you're building coordination between your different body parts, you can be sure inshallah that your strikes and combos will be more coordinated.
Only thing I hate about it is my hair whips into my face sometimes when I plat it so some training days I do get limited time on skipping Alhamdulillah. Not to mention, skipping looks cool too according to my nieces and nephews, so that's a bonus.

Yeah it's awesome cardio...I'll give it a go inshaallah, im sure I have a skipping rope lying around somewhere, probably with my husbands boxing gear.
Lol about the hair. Didn't think it would be an issue for a brother but then again its a sunnah.
Just tie it back in a pony tail or if it's really long thread the hair halfway through or put it in a bun. You might look like a samurai but who cares. The Biggest Enemy of Islam is Ignorance.

Indeed it is, always good for warm up as well. I bought new Reebok ball bearing speed rope from workout world for $34 but I must say its really good. Adjustable weight for the handles as well adjustable length with cable being the "rope" and it also came with a carry case.
As for my hair I'm just gonna have to be patient with the whips inshallah, I only do my hair in two styles which is let loose or platted/threaded. My mum does it for me. If I leave it in a pony tail it starts to splinter and doesn't look that neat from the tied part.Funnily enough, protein makes your hair grow faster, last year I trimmed it by 5-6 inches until it was neck length and by December it was back to normal SubhanAllah, so that's another reason to have protein.
That's excellent TabarakAllah, keep it up and inshallah you'll get used to it and more better at it. On a training day I skip from in between 10mins to an hour depending on my routine mix I feel like doing or I just want to do light training. Results feel good too.

My doc said i may have a torn muscle on my right side of my tummy after giving birth. Its been over 2 months now and it hurts me every now and then when i turn my upper body and talk or even after walking for long distance.
Can I still excersise or do things like skips?
Im still not sure if its a torn muscle, im gonna go for a check up inshallah. When my heart became constricted and my paths became narrow - I took my hope in Your pardon and forgiveness as an opening and an escape - My sins seemed very great to me but when I compared them to Your forgiveness My Lord, I found Your forgiveness to be greater. - Imam al-Shafi'e (Rahimahullah)

If you have a torn muscle sister it is best you allow it to heal inshallah, and to avoid movements that affect its recovery. Once it is healed inshallah, do a check up again and consult your doctor to see if it is okay to do exercises such as skipping etc which may affect your abdominal muscle group.
Increase your protein intake in your diet through a variety of foods to promote muscle repair. And of course, rest.

Wa iyaki. Depends sister on how serious your injury is. Could be days could be months. A general workout muscle tear would heal in about a week, but I wouldn't know how long it will take for something as serious as yours.

Houda, I don't want to worry you but it sounds like a really long time, I'd get that checked immediately and get a second opinion.
