After nearly 7 years of successfully running Crescent Project, feeding and supporting the homeless and disadvantaged of Sydney, al-Ghazzali Centre is looking to further expand it by consolidating other overlapping services it provides (specifically The Ansaar Project).

Masha Allah, the growth of Crescent Project has been phenomenal and your support is most appreciated. Al-Ghazzali Centre is keen to continue fulfilling this Prophetic Tradition and so is looking to make this project better and more effective.

Inspired by the colours of the Traditional owners of the land of Australia, which so vividly paints the natural landscape- from the black barks, red desert and the golden beaches. The vivid colours are a symbol of the Australian landscape on which our diverse paths cross and meet as one human family. It honours the Indigenous people. In our shared Tradition of hospitality, the Ansaar program seeks to reach out and share the responsibility of helping the human family across the Australian landscape we share.

The Program

The Ansaar Project has been more than feeding the homeless. It has continuously provided:

•Nourishing and healthy food for the homeless and the disadvantaged
•Clothing and sleeping bags for those in need
•Providing furntiure for settlers in Sydney but are unable to afford them
•Financial support whenever possible based on the small funds available to al-Ghazzali Centre
•Counseling and support service to the homeless and the disadvantaged by partnering with Christian organisations providing such services
•Zakaat funds to Muslim in need within Australia
•Funeral assistance for families needing such assistance
•Support and Halal food to Muslims in remote Australia
•Social, educational and financial support to international students
•Support to the ill in hosptials, as well as to the families looking after the chronically by preparing meals and cleaning up their lawns and homes

In 2009, al-Ghazzali Centre expanded its humanitarian aid services to the South Pacific, our closest neighbours. Countries include Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. Al-Ghazzali Centre is committed to the Prophetic Tradition of priority to our neighbourhoods, and will continue to serve in the Australia- Pacific region as a uniquely focussed priority.

The Ansaar Project has also expanded into Melbourne by partnering with a local organisation and providing welfare support to the local community there. This expansion will now include services specifically for refugee settlers and ex-detainees, that provide:

•Welfare support
•Mentoring for the youth
•Advocacy to the governemnt about detention and refugees
•Legal aid
•projects establishment for self-empowerment

We very much appreciate your continued volunteer support, and we ask you to please increase in your financial donations and support; as you can see, the services provided are quite significant and without your continued support none of this will have been actualised. We look forward to a continued partnership as Servants of Allah, serving others but seeking no thanks or gratitude but only the Pleasure of Allah.

Al-Ghazzali Centre (Australia), SeekersGuidance, and Rasheed Memorial Dawah Trust(New Zealand) are working together as part of its long-standing partnership to facilitate and provide humanitarian support to cyclone and flood affected Fiji Islands.

Families and villages have not been able to recover from floods some 8 weeks ago, and have just now been affected by more significant floods and cyclone officially named Daphne.

The Ansaar Project is seeking your financial aid to provide emergency aid to villages around Fiji through our well established network of social services in Fiji. The Ansaar Project is also working with other agencies regarding supplies, e.g., food, water, clothing and blankets.

We are seeking financial aid for a sister who is going through ongoing hardship. After being a hostage in her own home, her husband forced her out, only leave her homeless. She has been living with a family friend (may Allah reward them) for past two years while waiting for her immigration issues to be sorted out. The sister does not receive welfare support and she now has serious health concerns and cannot afford medication.

A few nights ago, I went for a walk in the CBD late at night to have some "fresh" air after my classes were over for the day.

As I was strolling through the empty streets contemplating a lot of things, I could not help but notice the amount of homeless people occupying what seemed like every second corner. They were not begging for anything; they were merely sleeping.

Why are they in that situation and aren't they entitled to assistance from the government?

You'll find that they come from broken homes where their family situation has fallen apart and have nowhere to go and no one to help them. Their stories are heart breaking and we try and help them as much as possible through things like the Winter Blanket Drive and feeding approximately 400 homeless people per month that the Ansaar Project facilitates alhamdulilah.

The issue with them receiving benefits is that they don't have identification nor do they have a fixed address where correspondence can be sent out to them, which is also why they miss out on things like medicare etc.

Alhamdulillah, we contributed FJ$16,000 towards rebuilding and repair to homes affected by the floods in Fiji.

As with every year, this year we have had as many as 60 calls and emails asking for financial, Zakaatable asisstance. This is not uncommon during this blessed month.

We are seeking your assistance to help with these requests. Please assist us, and make your Zakat payment, and general Charity to assist single mothers, converts, divorcees and refugee settlers.

Thank you greatly for your Zakat contributions. Financial help was provided to individuals in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. Amongst other kinds of direct and full assistance, we have been able to pay for the full housing costs of three sisters (bond plus 4 weeks' worth of rent for each person).

A quick note: The Ansaar Project assesses then provides as significant an amount as practicably possible to each individual it decides to support. In most cases, it is to the tune of full amounts needed by the person, rather than a small amount as a token.

Because of this, we are able to provide full assistance to a smaller number of individuals, rather than token assistance to a greater number of people.

As Ramadan came to its blessed end, we still had our target of $20,000 to be met. Thus far we have collected, Alhamdulillah, $15,650. Our commitment to provide does not stop with Ramadan, but continues throughout the year- please continue to support the various services of The Ansaar Project

The Ansaar Project is assisting a family, specifically the wife, who needs urgent financial assistance to pay for her current debts and overdue rent. Her situation is summarised as follows:

- The wife has no longer family support due to her husband suffering from mental illness. The family is demanding the wife divorce her husband yet she is sincere in her commitment to her marriage and to provide care for her ill husband as much as she can.

- The wife has incurred debts to provide care for the husband and to pay necessary expenses.

- The wife has not been able to pay their residential rent, and have been given a notice to vacate if the rent remains unpaid.
The total funds The Ansaar Project seeks to raise is AU$5,000 (including Zakat), to assist the family immediately.

We seek your urgent assistance through your generosity to aid the family and in particular the wife's current circumstances. The Ansaar Project has committed to provide food via its Halal Food Bank on a fortnightly basis to meet their daily needs as long as it is practically possible to do so.

The Ansaar Project has been assisting in various natural disaster relief efforts in the South Pacific. The latest impending disaster, Cyclone Evan, has just slammed Fiji directly, after much damage in Western Samoa, at wind speeds of up to 180km/hr.

We were in Fiji after the major storms in April, and with your support assisted 200 families with food relief in the early days after the flood, and in the past 8 months, The Ansaar Project, with assistance from Al-Imdaad Foundation [hyperlink to http://www.alimdaad.com.au/], helped reconstruct or repair a total of 15 homes damaged or destroyed from the April flood disaster.

We need your help again, and now!

The most critical time during natural disasters is immediately after it and at the first opportunity to help those needing shelter, food and clean water. The Ansaar Project will be assisting through this emergency relief at emergency shelters in Suva and Nadi on the main island of Viti Levu, as well as in Savu Savu on the northern island of Vanua Levu.
