TV's are good for gaming, but it can be argued that this does lead to a major sin, and the thing that one will regret the most on the Day of Judgement, i.e. wasting of time. I'm no. 1 guilty of this so don't assume I'm judging anyone.

It's a well known fact that watching tv too much will result in the viewer either getting square shaped eyes or a square shaped head.

These days, thanks to digital advancements and whatnot, you may even have your head turn into a tv.

Whoever remembers death often will find a small amount (of worldly things) sufficient for him; and whoever includes his speech in his deeds will speak little.

Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils, and ever has Satan been to his Lord ungrateful. (Surat al Isra': 27)

I only use tv for gaming, and now on Xbox you can access youtube. HD Islamic videos on T.V? Quite the win if you ask me. We usually sit and watch Nouman Ali Khan, family loves it

I agree with what most people are saying here. I used to watch a lot of TV and listen to music almost every waking hour. But ever since I stopped watching tv and completely gave up any kind of music, I realized i have sooooo much time now to do more constructive work. I realized when i watched TV previously, I was basically trying to fill the hours in the day coz I had no idea what i wanted to do. But now alhamdulilah i've deleted all the songs in my ipod and replaced them with Quran and islamic lectures It makes my commute to work much more interesting and constructive!

I agree with At-Taif, I watch documentaries/educational shows on the internet. You have more control this way of what you are watching. Plus, no ads!

OK, I want to re-energise this post by asking everyone to come up with 20 sins of watching TV along with examples. Can we do it? Let me start (please keep the numbering)
    1. The acceptance of homosexualism (eg Mardi Gras; homosexual characters in shows).

    6. Music and bad songs
    7. The depiction of violence without consequences and glorification of violence

I mean with the stuff you see in movies, one really wonders if they're giving the next psychotic lunatic ideas. People who come up with this depraved stuff justify anything because "hey, it's just a movie", but no, some people have potential to learn from this material.

^ add all the Harry Potter's to that...Hmm Oh and Justin Bieber...just for the hell of it.

From water: absolutely....art imitates life imitates art - like this twit: "A southern Indiana teen, who allegedly strangled his 10-year-old brother to death, said he was inspired by the television serial killer character Dexter."
La hawla Wa la quwata illa billah!

Some people are just psychos. I watched all the Friday the 13th movies, Nightmare on Elm Streets, Child's Plays, and the rest of them gory horror films, yeah they got a few laughs out of me, but I haven't gone and maimed anyone yet... not until I meet Bashaar al Asad lol

I didn't mean that they turn people into psychos (though that would definitely not surprise me), but that some of the more "innovative" violent films give ideas to psychos so that they can reach their maximum potential.

That said, I can't really stomach the more depraved depicted violence on TV and movies, and I mean the stuff in horror films or thrillers with these exceptionally depraved psychos. Video games usually don't reach those levels of depravity, but there are exceptions in that medium too.

Wasn't referring to what you said bro But I definitely agree that it gives people ideas. Like watching those CSI type shows, you gotta wonder what kind of sicko would come up with ideas like this... then again, it is America, it probably has already happened!

Those things occur beyond TV in public places
