Assalamu Alaikum w.w.
ALLAH Taala created man out of two entities...the body and the soul, the body is material and the soul spiritual...both coming from two opposite directions and locked together to form "life" the body from earth and the soul from the kingdom of ALLAH Taala...they are opposing each other and don't like each other, the body is made of earth's primary material ie calcium, sulphur, iron, magnesium etc... and feeds also on primary earth material, all our food consists of the same materials, and when the cycle of life finishes (Death) each goes back to its origine. As they are opposing each other, what benefit one harms the other, and each yearns for its origine...the soul wants to soar and the body yearn to earth...the strongest controls the weaker...the body likes rest and comfort and thrives on it, for that we invented washing machines, cars , soft beds, and likes our comfort zones...and when the body is well fed and rested it controls the soul and pulls it down, for that ALLAH Taala says with the meaning of " Those who make effort in our path we will guide him to our ways" So ALLAH Taala gives us in his infinite mercy the month of Ramadan...ALLAH Taala says I will give you a head start and I will show you how to increase your iman...so ALLAH Taala chains the shayateen and throws them in the sea...he frees us from our first enemy...then he ordered us to fast the month of Ramadan...the purpose is to tire the body and control our nafs (second enemy)...and when the body is tired ...no food ...no water it has no strength to pull the soul down ...and the soul rises high above, we start to see the beauty of the obedience of ALLAH Taala, people go the the masjids they pray 20 or 8 rakaats of taraweeh, the read their quran, they make zikr...try to do that outside Ramadan ??? these people are not acting, and it is not because the special month...it is because the body is tired and the soul is free...but unfortunatly the first day after Ramadan we gorge ourselves silly with sweets and food like we are trying to compensate for what we missed in Ramadan, and of course the body goes back to its former strength and pulls the soul back to where it was before Ramadan.
The purpose of Ramadan is to use that month to rise to a higher level and stay there till next Ramadan... then we rise to a higher level again...and every year we jump up one level and have a whole year to practice it until the next Ramadan then it will be easy to rise another level...and so on until the time for our souls to go back to its origin.
Any mistakes is from my own weakness, I pray we can all rise and stay there till next Ramadan.
Wassalam

Sh. Abdullah Azzam rahimahullaah said, that the first enemy of Jihaad is luxury.
When we become attached too much to this life, acts of goodness become difficult to do, when we fill our stomachs and overfill them on a daily basis, this reflects in our lack of righteousness and increased laziness.
Been a while since I've seen you post! Welcome back.
EDIT: Changed wording from 'comfort' to 'luxury', this is how it was translated in the video.

JazaakAllaahu khayr Br Roamer, good to see (you're writing) again!
"...The eyes are filled with tears and the heart is full of grief but we do not say anything except that which is pleasing to our lord.."
