Surrender: Thanks for the idea sis, I didn't think of Mansaf. Now to find a nice recipe for it. I was thinking meat and vegies along side, if I keep the oven free for vegies then I could probably bbq some chicken and Mansaf can be made on the stove.

Najah I don't like garlic based foods, let alone garlic prawns . Don't mind prawns in laksa and whatnot though, as long as their tails aren't attached *shudder*.

I like garlic, just not garlic based foods where garlic is the main ingredient...the after-smell is just too overpowering...

    lol prawns... ekh....

DH convinced me to try some at a fancy restaurant, I tried to chew it, got grossed out and spit it in the middle of the table.. So many horrified waiters staring at us after that... was so embarrassing, he never bugged me bout trying new foods again though lol

Today we had spinach/mince and rice with garlicky yoghurt and spring rolls. Alhamdulillah

I used to work at a supermarket in the meat department and a customer wanted something like 2kg of prawns so I filled 2kg for him, weighed and priced it; it cost around $36. He looks at me and asks "isn't it $8 a kilo?" - which is when I realised the number 1 had fallen off the price tag...

Moral of the story - those creatures are expensive.

I should ban all you seafood haters. It's just wrong :P

At-Ta'if poor guy he was probably so happy. Though if I saw them for $8/kg I would have been buying 5kg not 2!

I'm having DH's family + some others over on Tuesday insha'Allah so I've just started on food. We're going to do

    - BBQ meat - chicken ribs, steaks, kefta, sausages, lamb skewers, chicken skewers and chicken drummettes. All marinated tomorrow.
    - baba ghanoush, hummus, carrot dip and yoghurt/cucumber
    - salad + chicken fatteh
    - chicken kabsa
    - pasta bake - macaroni bechamel

For dessert - individual oreo cheesecakes (courtesy of Iva's recipe), truffle balls, trifle (with jelly/custard/berries) and homemade znud as-sit. Going to test out the znud as sit tomorrow to make sure they turn out OK. I don't like experimenting on them lol.

insha'Allah it all turns out good.

Seafood is so expensive in Australia. DH likes fishing though so at least we get some snapper that way alhamdulillah because it would cost a bomb to buy them. My FIL also likes fishing and he got some garfish and whiting last time. I just bought a decent fileting knife because I want to learn to filet the fish properly so they take up less room int he freezer and also avoid the bones for the kids.
