May I suggest avoiding saying someone has earned Allaahs wrath. We can only say this about people or groups that Allaah or his messenger spoke about. As bad as the olympics are I wouldn't go as far to say Allaah will smite them as we have to see how backwards muslims are these days. Most muslims in the world pray to graves or make dua to the dead. Yet we sadly are not saying Allaah hates these people or their actions.

Allah knows best, I agree with you about the shirk and such. It is just that it is as the sheikh said, people see us belittle our deen and grasp at any concession these "scholars" make, and so we and Islam as a whole fall in their eyes and we are plunged further. This is negative da`wah, people get upset when one says something harsh against kuffar, but if you want to see what really tarnishes Islam's image, look no further than events like this, where Saudi, home of Mekkah and Medina and seen as the beacon of Islam is participating in this in such a disgraceful and undignified manner for so many reasons. The kuffar nod but are still dissatisfied and hate us, the munafiqeen and zanaadiqah are rejoicing. Their appointment is the day of judgment insha Allah.

great, the topic has changed. . . now this!
How canst thou say to thy brother,Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.

on another note, refer to the olympic charter regarding religious symbols.
Clause 50 (3) states:
"No kind of demonstration or political, religious or racial propaganda is permitted in
any Olympic sites, venues or other areas."

Nice find.
On an unrelated note, I've noticed many different levels of adherence to the rules of Islam by Muslims. Those who adhere more than others will always be the first to look down upon and criticise their decisions.
At the end of the day, there are some Muslims who have decided to, besides practise Islam, compete in sport at an International level. They will start the Olympics as a Muslim and most probably leave as one. It's a shame that a handful have forfeited some basic Islamic rulings such as Ramadan to compete but their global presence as Muslims doing stuff amongst the usual crap in the media can only be positive.

They are clearly not enforcing that clause given Christian missionaries and Muslim da3ees are out in force.
Abdur-Raheem Green says there have been 13 shahadahs so far.

The flame is lit in Ancient Olympia before being taken around Great Britain for 70 days.
"ATHENS, GREECE - MAY 10: The London 2012 torch is lit at Ancient Olympia during the ceremony of the lighting of the flame that will burn at the London 2012 Olympic Games."
