Does anyone know which banks have interest free accounts or the ability to remove interest from the account?

Both Comm Bank and ANZ do, upon request. I am not sure what the exact account name is. But you are given Visa Debit card and if your salary (ANZ) or $2K or more (Comm Bank) gets credited to the account monthly fees are waived.

You can arrange with Westpac to not get any interest on your accounts, but you have to pay an extra nominal fee.

This isn't true for ANZ Visa Debit, at least not the one I'm on. I specifically asked for an account that has no interest, and then I got charged interest for overdrawn account, on top of a fee. Thinking of switching banks now but don't know where to go. kellon adrab min ba3d

I think most do charge interest if the account balance is in negative (or overdrawn) similar to late payment credit card. I understood the sis was after a bank which do not pay interest to us, when the balance is positive. Thus suggested ANZ and Comm Bank. Agreed its not 100% interest free...

You need to specifically state u want interest fee due to religious purposes. Just say u dnt want to gain or give interest. With commbank they hve a 0.01% interest and u can nominate a charity that they can transfer that interest for u. Nab has the 0.01% interest also wen u request u dnt want interest at all but the bonus with them is that they hve a product with no account fees, whereas commbanks has fees if u dnt put $2000 in account each mnth they charge like $6 or so. From my understanding comm/nab both hve that 0.01% interest.

Citibank does not pay interest on their everyday citibank plus account. Have a look at http://citibank.com.au/aus/banking/everyday_banking.htm
